Postal service is established briefly in the Colonies.

Thomas Neale is granted a royal patent “to control the post offices for twenty-one years.” Neale never comes to America, but appoints Andrew Hamilton of Philadelphia as his deputy in the Colonies, who attempts to establish a monopoly on mail service. Another attempt to establish a postal service is made in 1751.*
